On a local level, I still feel comfortable enough with the GOP to remain registered as an 'R'. However, despite my current status, I have nothing but loathing for the national party.

At this point in time, Republicans don't deserve to regain power. They have no ideas, no principles, no honor. We moderates would be better off supporting individual candidates as opposed to generic Republicans.

Despite my own assertions, moderate Republicans might be picking up a Senate seat in 2010. Rep. Mike Castle, a liberal Republican, leads Joe Biden's son in a theoretical race. Picured above, Castle might be an unlikely savior in Delaware. Ironically, Chris Dodd is also vulnerable.

Sarah Palin continues to pose problems for Republicans. Her popularity among the party faithful does not translate into automatic establishment support. As much as I disliked Mitt Romney, at least the man has some credibility on the economy. Palin has just become a joke. It's sad for her and for Alaska.

Conservative Democrats in congress are flexing their political muscle.

Surprisingly, my most recent post generated a fair amount of responses. To clarify, I will continue to support Republican candidates. However, I have been considering changing my voter registration.

In many ways, Senator Specter was the canary in the coal mine for the GOP. Outside of the Deep South, Republicans simply cannot remain competitve. Let's not pretend that things are going to get better under Obama. He remains personally popular and will be re-elected. If you doubt that, you should stop drinking Boone's Farm out of a bag.

This blog may very well become the 'conservative Democrat'. With the defection of Arlen Specter, Republicans took another body blow.

Instead of posting a defense of Specter, I will let him speak for himself:

"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

Amen, Arlen. I will be changing my registration soon.

Despite a pledge to increase transparency, Obama's press shop is getting mixed reviews from reporters. At least Recovery.gov lets you track where your money is going.

Bernie Goldberg confronted Sean Hannity over his constant Obama bashing. I think Obama critics are rapidly dividing into two camps: those who oppose the excesses of his liberalism, and those who simply oppose him. I consider myself to be in the former camp.

Unless 2012 proves to be a miracle for Republicans, we will be dealing with Obama for eight years. As a result, I'm not going to expend the emotional energy hating the man. He wont be wrong one hundred percent of the time for anyone. Do we really want to act like infantile liberals?
